Home safety resources

A few things to think about today

Three signs it may be time for a home safety check

New bruises with no clear explanation, furniture being used to steady themselves while walking, or hesitation on stairs are early signals — before a fall happens.

Simple fall-prevention fixes you can make today

Clear walking paths of loose rugs and cords, add nightlights along the route to the bathroom, and keep frequently used items between waist and shoulder height.

What to expect after a hospital discharge

The first two weeks home after a hospital stay carry the highest risk of a fall or readmission. Having a plan for mobility and daily activities before discharge day makes a real difference.

Frequently asked

Common questions from families

Do you accept insurance or Medicare?+

Thrive at Home is cash-pay only and does not bill insurance or Medicare. Care is not built around diagnosis codes. After each visit we provide an itemized receipt. Some families submit that receipt to an HSA or healthcare FSA — eligibility is up to the IRS and their plan, not us. See the HSA & FSA questions on the Resources page.

What areas do you serve?+

We serve Scottsdale and the greater Phoenix metro area, including Paradise Valley, Fountain Hills, Cave Creek, Tempe, Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert, north and central Phoenix, Glendale, and Peoria. If you are just outside that list, ask — travel is considered case by case.

How do I know which package is right?+

Most families start with a conversation, not a decision. Use the package matcher on this site, or request a 15-minute consult. Many clients begin with the Essential Home Safety Assessment. After a hospital discharge, the Comprehensive Independence Package is usually the better fit.

Do you offer telehealth or virtual visits?+

Yes. Telehealth check-ins are available as an add-on and are also used for some of the recurring visits in the Ongoing Support Membership.

How quickly can we get started?+

Inquiries are reviewed within one business day, and same-day whenever the time-sensitive box is checked — for example after a recent fall or hospital discharge.

Is this a substitute for home health or a nursing home evaluation?+

No. This is private-pay occupational therapy focused on safety and independence at home. It can complement home health. It is not emergency care, and we do not document diagnoses.

Do we need a doctor's diagnosis to get started?+

No. You do not need a referral or a diagnosis on file. Tell us how your loved one is managing at home. We do not make medical diagnoses and we do not keep a diagnosis list.

What does it cost?+

Packages are published and cash-pay: Essential Home Safety Assessment $525 (reduced rate $375 when cost is the barrier to a first visit); Comprehensive Independence Package $1,450; Memory & Cognitive Safety $1,750; Ongoing Support $295/month; Project Coordination from $1,195. The first 15-minute phone consult is free.

Can we pay with an HSA or FSA?+

You pay Thrive at Home directly. We then give you an itemized receipt you may submit to an HSA or healthcare FSA. We do not guarantee reimbursement. The account generally has to belong to the person receiving care, their spouse, or a tax dependent — an adult child’s HSA usually cannot pay for a parent who is not their dependent.

Paying with HSA or FSA

Itemized receipts, not insurance claims

Cash-pay occupational therapy can sometimes be submitted to an HSA or healthcare FSA. We do not guarantee reimbursement. This is general information — not tax or legal advice.

Can I use an HSA or FSA for Thrive at Home?+

You pay us directly. After each visit we provide an itemized receipt you may submit to an HSA or healthcare FSA. We do not bill insurance and we do not guarantee reimbursement. Confirm with your plan administrator or a tax professional.

Whose HSA or FSA can pay — mine or my parent’s?+

Generally the account has to belong to the person receiving care, their spouse, or someone who claims them as a tax dependent. If you are an adult child paying for a parent who is not your dependent, your HSA usually cannot reimburse that visit.

What is on the itemized receipt?+

Practice name and credentials, the patient’s name, date of service, a description such as “occupational therapy — in-home evaluation,” and the amount paid. We do not print diagnosis codes.

Do you need a diagnosis code for reimbursement?+

No, and we do not keep a diagnosis list. Some FSA administrators still ask for extra paperwork. We can describe what we addressed in the home without creating a medical diagnosis.

What is the difference between an HSA and an FSA?+

An HSA is yours; keep the receipt. A healthcare FSA is an employer plan that usually has to approve the expense. A dependent-care FSA (daycare) cannot be used for these visits.

What about grab bars, ramps, or a bathroom remodel?+

Keep our clinical invoice separate from the contractor’s. Some medically necessary access work can qualify under IRS Publication 502. We invoice only occupational therapy.

Can you write a letter of medical necessity?+

We can write a short functional letter about what is hard in the home. We will not invent a diagnosis. A letter is not a promise of reimbursement.
